Last week on Friday after Tech we spent the whole day at Tamaki College building rockets. First we made a straw rocket. We had to watch a mini YouTube clip to get an idea of how to make the rocket. Next we moved onto making a cardboard rocket that we didn't have enough time to finish. Today in class we had to recap our learning session at Tamaki College by creating a procedural writing on how to make a straw rocket.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Magic Box Poem
I will put into the box …
A rare seashell from Hawaii on a windy Autumn day
A journal that is over 50 thousand years old
The sweet taste of chocolate as it melts in my mouth
I will put into the box …
The delightful scent of daisy petals falling off the plant
A teddy bear made of human flesh
A flag of Afghanistan that I stand proud of
I will put into the box …
the lingering scent of my favourite perfume
A fairy on a broomstick
The stars in the sky that are made out of puffy marshmallows
My box is fashioned from Love and gold and diamonds, with secret ancient codes on the lid and corners. Its hinges are made space and luxury. I shall keep my box till my last days, and store all my memories from good to bad in it as time goes by.
This week in LS2 as part of writing we have been focusing on descriptive writing. We were introduced to a poem called 'Magic Box' our teacher. The author of the poem is Kit Wright. After reading the poem we had to write our own version of the 'Magic Box'. We had to use descriptive words to paint a clear photo in someones mind when they are reading our poems.

Dog Report Wrting
Dog Report
Dogs are one of my favorite animals. They can be your best friend. I think dogs are a lot of fun. There are different kinds of dogs but they all need food, special equipment, and care.
There are lots of different kinds of dogs. Dogs come in all sorts of different breeds, some dogs are mixed breeds. Some of the most well known breeds are: German Shepherd, Poodle, Spaniel, Labrador, and Boxer. Sometimes mixed breeds have some funny names. For example if you cross a labrador and a poodle you have a labradoodle.
Dogs have specially made food for them. The most well known dog food are: Dog Roll, Jelly Meat, and Dog Biscuit. Some dogs only get one serving of food per day, but others get twice (breakfast and dinner). Dogs need high quality, well balanced dog food and treats. They also need lots of fresh water for the body to properly work and digest food.
Dogs need to keep healthy. In order to keep them healthy dogs need regular vet visits. Dogs need to be provided with a shelter that has a warm bedding. Dogs need plenty of exercises. Dog owners will need to take their dog out for a walk for at least 10-15 minutes a day. Another way to keep dogs healthy, owners need to get their dogs vaccination at 12 weeks to maintain them healthy.
Dogs need to be provided with special equipment such as: water bowl, food dish, collar, and leash. Dog collar and leash are one of the most important equipment for your dog. A dog leash can be attached to your dog’s collar so you can keep them under control. Dogs also need a god collar to be identified if they get lost. If a dog runs away from home dog people can identify them by their collar because they have all information about their owner.
This is my dog report writing. My writing group this term is learning to write a report. In this writing it explains about dogs and how to care for them.

Sub Word Wall
The temperature was freezing as if it was a sub-zero temperature as Jeff had to subdue the sled dogs from going off track in a blizzard during a dog sled race. It’s neighboring country (Canada) was having a war. When all of sudden, a submarine submerged from the waters. The Subaltern Corporal lead the assault, his men were frightened but the corporal managed subside them. They entered the hidden subway their men dug. As they entered they felt a subnormal presence.
This is Harry, John, Victoria, Charlize and I's 'Sub Word Wall'. We had to find 25 words that had the word sub meaning under/below. We also had to get 8 words from our word wall and write a paragraph using all 8 words.

Building A Deck Narrative
Building A Deck
The sun rose behind Adrian’s window. He woke up excited because today was the day. His mum and dad were planning to build a deck in their backyard.
“Adrian, son” screamed his father reading his newspaper, as he entered the kitchen. Adrian’s mum had phoned the builders a few weeks ago and today they were going to build the deck. Around 11:30 o’clock the doorbell rang. Adrian rushed to the door to see who it was. When he opened the door he saw three men standing there with tools in their hands. Andrian's father came rushing to the door and lead the men outside. An hour later Andrian decided to go and see what they were up to. The builders had made the deck pillars. Now they were on to cutting and smoothing the wood for the deck. After cutting and smoothing they were finally ready to start arranging the wood onto the deck framework. Piece by piece they placed the wood carefully on the half finished deck. Then they nailed each piece down.
The deck took about five hours to build. The builders packed everything up and were about to leave, when Adrian’s dad decided to have them over for dinner. Adrian, his dad, and the builders were chilling on the brand new deck when Adrian’s mum brought out the delicious lasagna that had just been pulled out of the oven. Adrian's family all had dinner together on the deck and had a memorable night with the builders who built the deck.
This is my writing. We had to write a narrative about 'building a deck'. My characters in this narrative are the three builders, and Adrian's family.

Describe The Character
This was our writing for my group this week.
We had been given an image to describe the character.
First we had to brainstorm our idea's in a Google Doc of what we saw, then write a story using your brainstorming ideas.
The sun rose behind the hill at the park, Mrs Gorilla hiked through the green grass, wearing her blue dress and her romanian flag scarf. She stopped to look at something, it wasn’t pleasant. She had an angry expression on her face and did not seem pleased.

Describing The Scene
On a winter day, a class of kids were heading towards the trees. Everyone could hear each other's footsteps when they were running, and they could see each worried expressions on the other kids faces.
This is my beginning of my narrative.
I had to describe the picture by using the clues that were given to us by the image.

Pumpkin Story
Pumpkin Story
One of Zac’s favourite foods was pumpkin soup. He asked his father to take him to the supermarket to get pumpkins since they were in season, for pumpkin soup.
“You know Zac, instead of having to go to the market every week, you can grow your own pumpkin in the garden”, exclaimed his father.
“What a great idea”, thought Zac. The sun dropped from the sky, it was time for Zac to go to bed.
At dawn, he rushed to get ready for the morning. Jumping out of bed he walked to the bathroom. Zac ambled to the kitchen, he saw his mum and dad. Feeding himself on a bowl of cereal, he reminded his father that they were going to plant pumpkins. It was too early in the morning so his dad suggested to start planting around 10 o’clock. Hour by hour passed, until it was the right time to plant the pumpkin seeds.
His father went to his little rusty shed and brought out a little bag that was full of pumpkin seeds. Zac’s father instructed Zac how to plant them. First he dug a little hole, then pushed a seed in, and finally tipped more soil on top. Everyday Zac would water the seeds. A few months later he noticed little yellow flowers where he planted the seeds. In order to make sure the pumpkins grew healthy he looked after it better than anything else he had.
3 months later the flowers transformed into pumpkins. But they were not ready yet so he had to wait a few more weeks until they were ripe. One day Zac’s father recommended that it was time for the pumpkins to be harvested. They slowly and gently harvested the pumpkin and took it to the kitchen to be cleaned. After washing and drying the pumpkin they placed it on a board to cut it into slices for pumpkin soup. They had to wait for the soup to be ready. When it was done, mum got home really hungry. Dad brought the soup to the table.
“This is the best pumpkin soup I’ve ever tasted!” Zac said after the scrumptious homemade soup.
This is my writing about a boy who likes pumpkin soup. He grows his own pumpkin in his backyard at home with the help of his father. He had to wait a really long time for the pumpkins to be ready. When the pumpkins were ready Zac and his father made pumpkin soup.
