This is a task from my excellence and innovation page from the gold care award booklet. For this task I had to create a DLO about someone who is a mentor to me and other students in the area. The person that I chose was Allah. I chose Allah because Allah is very important in every Muslims life becaus ehe looks out for us and makes sure to keep every Muslim in the correct path of life.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

PBS Athletics Day
Today we had our PBS athletics day. We were lucky to have some Tamaki College students to help us out. Each year group were split into 3 groups, where we learnt to collaborate as a team and cheer each other off. The year 8's started off with a game called capture the flag, then sponge relay, long jump, shot putt, and lastly hula hoop throw. I think my team worked collaboratively together because we won most of our games. A huge thank you to Mr Ogilve for organizing the event for the students.

Pigeon Post
For the past 2 weeks we have been working on Pigeon Post. This was a new learning for my reading group because we used a multimodal DLO. Our reading group was split into 4 groups R, E, A, and D. Our group was R. We had to work collaboratively as a group and use our smart searching skills to get our tasks done and make up our mind if pigeons are 'pests' or special birds. My opinion was that I think that they are very special birds because they risked their lives during WW1 to deliver important messages behind the enemy lines that saved many of the soldiers lives. Check out our pigeons reading follow up where we did all of the other tasks by clicking here.

Hockey
Today for PE we had Hockey. In today's session we were learning how to dribble, stop the ball, turn around the stick, ball and some other techniques. First we started off by playing a game of octopus to get us warmed up, then we moved onto learning simple rules about Hockey. We played a very fun game called traffic light. There were 6 colors that all meant something. The colors were Purple (reverse), Blue (roundabout), Red (stop), Orange (slow down), Green (go), Silver (speed up) Everyone really enjoyed the session this morning and would really like to thank the 2 hockey coaches for teaching us more hockey techniques.

Pigeons
In reading for the past few weeks we were learning about pigeons and finding out if they are pests or special animals. We were put into groups to research pigeons to find out if they are pests or special kinds of birds. Some people think that Pigeons are pests because they carry over 60 types of diseases. Other people think that pigeons are a special type of bird because they risked their lives in WW1 and 2 by carry messages and delivering it to other people from different cities.

This is a popplet made on the bar tailed godwit bird. We were using our smart searching skills to find out info about the bar-tailed godwit bird. In this popplet I have added some information about the godwit such as the appearance, habitat, diet, and predator. Did you know that the bar tailed godwit bird can fly 7,242 miles without stopping.

Manaiakalani Cluster Film Festival
Today we went to the Sylvia Park Hoyts for the 9th annual Manaiakalani Film Festival. We watched movies that the other schools made from the Manaiakalani Cluster. All the movies that the schools made we really fun to watch because the classes and the teachers had put a lot of effort into the movies. When we were got to school we had to blog comment on other classes blogs from the Manaiakalani Cluster.

This week in maths LS2 has been learning to design and make a paper plane. We were put into groups and made many different designs to see which one would go the furthest. We did this by searching the internet for step to step designs and watching Youtube Videos that showed us how to make the paper plane as well.
